Privacy and data
This page covers what Watchalong records when a client watches a walkthrough, who handles it, how long it's kept, and who can see it.
What is recorded
Your client's voice is recorded only while they hold the talk button or answer a question. Nothing is recorded before they tap Start, and tapping Start is how they agree to it. The first screen tells them all of this before they do.
For each thing your client says, Watchalong keeps:
- the audio, for 30 days
- the written transcript
- the point in the video where they said it
- the narrator's reply, and how long it took
It also keeps a record of how the video was watched. That's each play, pause and jump, and each time the page went into the background or came back.
The three processors
Three services handle your client's voice and the narrator's replies. Watchalong uses its own accounts with each. Your organisation doesn't need one.
| Service | What it does |
|---|---|
| Deepgram | Turns your client's spoken answers into text |
| Anthropic | Writes the narrator's replies, from the plan document and the video's voice-over |
| ElevenLabs | Speaks the replies and the checkpoint questions in the narrator's voice |
What is deleted, and when
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Your client's raw audio | 30 days, then deleted |
| The narrator's spoken replies | 30 days, then deleted |
| Transcripts, replies as text, open questions and answers | As long as your organisation exists |
| The record of how the video was watched | As long as your organisation exists |
| The walkthrough's video, question audio and plan document | Until a draft is discarded. Archiving keeps them so links keep working |
The audio is deleted by a rule on the storage itself, not by anyone remembering to do it. Transcripts are kept on purpose. Both you and your client look back at them, and your client's recap depends on them.
Nothing in storage is public. Video, audio and documents open through links that stop working after 10 minutes, or 120 minutes on a client's recap page, and only for someone signed in to your organisation or holding that client's link.
What PostHog records
Watchalong uses PostHog to see how the product is used, so we can fix what gets in the way.
On your client's page, PostHog sends nothing until your client taps Start. After that it records page views, taps and clicks, errors, and a recording of the screen. It never records audio. Your client is never named in PostHog. The page marks what your client says and reads, such as the transcript, their questions and the player, so screen recordings can mask it.
On member pages, PostHog records page views, clicks, errors and a screen recording, against your name and your organisation. Transcripts, questions, client names and links are marked for masking there too.
Watchalong also sends PostHog a short event for key actions, such as "walkthrough published", "session started" or "question answered". These carry ids, counts and durations only, never what anyone said or typed.
Invite tokens, link signatures and email addresses in page addresses are blanked out before anything is sent.
What your organisation can see
For each session, anyone in your organisation can see:
- the client's name and email, who invited them, and when
- when the client tapped Start, and when they finished or where they left
- how much of the video they watched
- everything they said, as text, at the point in the video they said it
- each narrator reply and how long it took
- the record of how the video was watched
- the open questions and every answer given
- the sign-off and the client's reasons, when the walkthrough asked for one
Your organisation can't hear your client's recorded audio. It isn't available on the session page or in exports. Your client's browser details aren't shown either.
No other organisation can see your walkthroughs, sessions or files.
What your client can see
Your client sees their own recap only. That's the video, their own transcript, the questions they asked with your answers, their sign-off if one was asked, and the plan document. They can't see other clients' sessions, even on the same walkthrough.
